A: Yummease offers busy professionals and families the convenience of meals without shopping and chopping. We Shop. We Chop. We Drop it off! We provide a convenient way to have fresh, healthy meals delivered to your home and office. Clients choose the meals they want from our website, and every week, coolers of freshly prepared meals are delivered to your doorstep (or desk).
A: We feel that the majority of people are too busy to prepare healthy meals everyday. Yummease is not necessarily a meal delivery service to cater every single meal for you and your family (even though we could be), but more so a service for those busy days or weeks. Anyone looking for a fast, convenient way to eat well and still have time to do the things they love is the perfect client for us. With today's hectic lifestyles, the convenience of delicious, freshly prepared, healthy meals delivered to your home or office is a welcome relief.
A: We have tried to cater to most budgets keeping meals between $7-15. Offering our meals á la carte allows you the decision of what sides you would like with each meal, or if you prefer you can only have your entrées delivered, then you can come up with your own side dishes.
Most often families don´t add in the time it costs for meal planning and grocery shopping, not to mention the time it takes to prepare gourmet-style meals and cleanup. When you start adding all this up the cost of having fresh, healthy meals delivered to you becomes an affordable, time saving option. And just think of all the things you can do with the time you save!
A: Our meals come fully prepared for your convenience. All you have to do follow the simple instructions for heating. Our meals are freshly frozen and are prepared on a weekly basis, which allows us to use the freshest ingredients. They are frozen so that you can save them for a night when you don´t feel like cooking or simply don?t have the time.
A: We prepare each meal ourselves in our 1000 sq foot commercial, provincially inspected kitchen in South St. Vital. We follow all provincial health and safety codes and hold valid food handlers certificates. We know that taste is what sells when it comes to food. This is why we make everything from scratch, even down to our own vegetable soup stocks, tomato sauces as well as our own house-made curries. We even roast and grind our own spices! Rest assured you are getting the highest quality meals made from the freshest, quality ingredients.
A: No, we have 2 options. We have an ongoing dinner club where meals are automatically delivered every Sunday night; or you can choose to between the numerous meal packs and freshly frozen á la carte menu options to choose from.
A: The re-heating times listed on the instructions are the times it took us using our own kitchen equipment. If they do not match exactly, it´s likely due to the differences in kitchen set-ups, cooking temperatures, and equipment used. Cooking is sometimes more art then science, and we do the best that we can to ensure that recipe times are as accurate as possible.
A: If you have serious allergies, we can't guarantee that our meals do not contain traces of peanuts or other allergens. We try to provide vegetarian and vegan options as well as let you choose your sides. That way you should be able to find what you are looking for within our menu. If you have any questions or suggestions, please feel free to send us an email.
A: "Healthy" is a generic label that means different things to different people. The way that we define healthy food is fresh ingredients, with the least amount of miles added to it and free from additives, preservatives and fillers. Basically, almost all the food that you would normally find in the frozen section, and the majority of shelves in your local grocery store would not count as "healthy" to us.
A: Even though microwaves are one of the most convenient inventions made, we feel that food that is cooked, or even reheated, in a microwave dries out, and tastes off compared to reheating it in an oven. We suggest to follow the instructions on the package, but if you do decide to use the microwave just use at own risk.
A: We are committed to using fresh, locally sourced ingredients and suppliers (organic whenever possible). We believe in supporting local farmers and feel our ingredients are superior to what you will find in other prepared meals.
We are committed to following these guidelines when sourcing our ingredients: Meats
• local and naturally-raised
• No antibiotics or hormones administered.
• Grain fed. Not fed animal by products. Dairy, Eggs and Tofu
• Eggs: Locally-raised in Steinbach, Manitoba. Grain-fed, free of antibiotics or hormones. Vitamin and mineral-rich Grade A free run eggs.
• Cheese: We use local producer Bothwell Cheese because it is made with fresh, locally-produced milk. There are absolutely no modified milk ingredients, fillers or preservatives. Unlike other cheese producers, dairy farmers still deliver their milk directly to Bothwell Cheese, which makes a difference that you can taste. Flour, Oats, Breads
• Our flour, oats and breads are all locally produced and certified organic. Fruits and Veggies
• We try to source local produce first, then organic. Dry Goods We look for products with:
• No added salts
• No "natural" flavorings, artificial flavorings and/or colors
• No MSG.
A: As we began to notice how many people around us were coming down with diseases, we started reading a lot more books on health and food politics. In most cases it is almost impossible to find out much, if anything, about the origins of many foods we eat. Even asking other Manitoba food producers where their ingredients came from, we´ve been met with blank stares and told, "we contract that out to this country or this company". Your body is your most important asset yet we choose to eat food that comes to us anonymously. We want to know more about the food we eat. Buying food today is complicated. What pesticides were used? Is that corn genetically modified? What is "natural" in this product? People who eat locally find it easier to get answers. Many build relationships with farmers whom they trust. That way you eat fresher food while helping the local economy.
We would say the 100 mile diet mantra sums up what we care about:
• The distance our food travels from field to table;
• The energy used in growing and processing this food;
• The conditions under which it was grown; and - the well-being of those who grew and processed it.
• Participating in the creation and promotion of a more ecologically and socially just way of eating
